The scrapbook contains chiefly newspaper clippings pasted in, as well as some steamer menus, calling cards, and a list of passengers from a steamship. The scrapbook has a blue cloth binding with silver and black borders and decorations as well as a center colour image of two children ice skating. Clippings come mostly from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island newspapers, including the St. John Daily Telegraph, The Guardian (Charlottetown), The Weekly Patriot (Charlottetown), St. John Gazette, and the Halifax Chronicle, as well as some Toronto area papers, the Montreal Star, and Ottawa Citizen. One large clipping is from the Johannesburg Star. Many of the clippings are transcriptions of letters sent by Maude Bremner, as well as other fellow Canadian teachers in South Africa.

File contains one black and white photograph featuring two oval portraits, one of Maude Bremner and one likely of her husband, Major J. de Castilla. Accompanied by an envelope addressed to Bremner's father, Benjamin Bremner.

Printed memorandum prepared by G. W. Kekewich for the Board of Education, Whitehall, S. W., November 4, 1901. The booklet includes: instructions as to how teachers approved for work in South African can apply for teacher appliances (books, teaching supplies and materials); lists of supplies, clothing, and medicines to take; a blank agreement between the approved teacher and the Crown Agents for the Colonies; and information regarding period of engagement, conditions of work, required medical examinations, etc.

Collection includes a scrapbook created by Maude Lilian Bremner during her time in South Africa as a teacher to Boer children in refugee camps, as well as other related loose clippings and ephemera. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, postcards, and other ephemera tipped in. Many of the clippings are articles reprinting letters written home by Bremner and other volunteer teachers in her contingent. Collection also includes a published Memorandum respecting the engagement of teachers for the refugee camps in South Africa.

File consists of loose clippings originally laid into Bremner's scrapbook, most dating from the earlier period of Bremner's teaching activity in South Africa (1902-1903), as well as later clippings following her marriage as well as clippings related to general news and events from South Africa, including the restoration of internal self-government to the Transvaal Colony in 1906.
