Drawings for Ravenscrag Development were donated to the John Bland Canadian Architecture Collection by Kathleen McConnell Laing.
Scope and content
"Architectural drawings, 1931, 11 drawings." Copies of plans and sections of the design for Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto are found in the archive. This sports arena was designed in association with John Ryrie and MacKenzie Waters.

General note
George Allen Ross (1879-1946) was born in Montreal and studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Ross received additional training at the offices of Parker and Thomas in Boston and at the firm of Carrère and Hastings in New York. Upon his return to Montreal Ross formed a partnership with the Montreal architect David Huron MacFarlane (1875-1950). Ross and MacFarlane's partnership lasted until MacFarlane's retirement in 1913 at which time Robert Henry Macdonald (1875-1942) formed a partnership with Ross. Macdonald was born in Melbourne, Australia. After apprenticing with Richard B. Whitaker in Melbourne he emigrated to Canada in 1895. From 1895 to 1903 Macdonald worked as a junior draughtsman for Robert Findlay; he worked subsequently for George B. Post and Sons in New York (1903-5) and then for Crichton and MacKay in Wellington, New Zealand. From 1907 to 1912 he worked for Ross and Macdonald becoming the partner of Ross upon the retirement of MacFarlane in 1913. Ross and Macdonald developed one of the largest architectural practices in Canada in the early twentieth century, designing buildings such as the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, the T. Eaton Company Store in Montréal and Toronto, Union Station in Toronto and Central Station in Ottawa.
