History

Son of John Philips Sr. and Elizabeth Ritchie, John (Jack) Philips was Lieutenant Sergeant of the Second Special Service Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry which was deployed in South Africa during the Boer War. Jack fought in South Africa from October 21, 1899 to the December 25, 1900 and later served in World War I in France. He was killed in action on September 20, 1917 at the 3rd Battle of Ypres, also known as the Battle of Menin Road.
