Lady Osler finds herself at home alone, as Phoebe left for town, Norman and Campbell have gone to Milton Hill, and Osler went to attend a funeral in Cambridge. Archie Malloch is visiting for a few days before starting Mrs. Guest's Convalescent home. While Osler was in Chester, Lady Osler took Phoebe, Norman, Campbell and Mr. Langstaffe to Ewelme. She writes of her contributions to the war-effort and comments on the war. The Frank Oslers are to visit Oxford and Lady Osler is in despair over the number of guests in her home.

Susan could learn how to type and could also work with Osler. Joan makes plans to marry. Lady Osler recommends Mrs. Humphrey Ward's book, "England's Effort." Mrs. Somerville has lost her nephew, Lady Scott's son. Lady Osler believes Adèle, Bob, and Babs will all go home.

She worries about Ottilie and Marjorie, as they do not get along. Osler is still sad about Muriel leaving. She hopes Osler will one day have a granddaughter, but remarks that it is doubtful now. Osler has just returned from a Royal Commission on Education in Wales. Comments on the war. The Oslers met with the new Governor General of Canada, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and Lord Salisbury at the Astors's home. She mentions the Max-Mullers, Mary Cobot and Joe Revere.
