Concerning his unit, it would be well for Hutchinson to see Brewer or Cushing, about their arrangements at Paris. For 150 beds, he would not need a large personnel. The wounded are beginning to pour in again, particularly Canadians, who have been hard hit. Astonished how many bullet wounds, even through the chest and abdomen, heal promptly. He is interested in the arterio-venous cases. Will send him a lecture on the subject. Civilities.

He was under the impression that he had written him from the Athenaeum Club after seeing Henry James. The latter is deeply depressed, his nephew Henry James Junior stayed with him for a while, and now William James is there. There are not good accounts. Extract from a letter William James sent where he describes the state of mind of Henry James. Skinner has recommended changing his mind and that Henry James friends work in that direction. Comments on Skinner. Osler's opinion on the matter is that the disease is relatively superficial and the remissions seem independent of assignable outward influences. Mentions that Henry James had written to him 18 months ago about anginoid symptoms, which had disappeared. Hopes that White will visit him to cheer him up.

Informs him that out of the 10 000$, the result of Grace's appeal, he is responsible for over 3000$. Splendid for Philadelphia. Grace and he would like to write personally to the Philadelphia subscribers. Explains that it is not easy to get anything specific to do, apart from the Red Cross or the Army Medical. Mentions that Keogh told him they have had to sit severely upon all outside independent hospitals and units for the front, and it was not possible to control their work. The English provisions for the front and at the base hospitals are excellent, but the French need help. The best work is done through the American Hospital in Paris. Will cable him if he hears of anything specific. Civilities.
