        History

Gordon Antoine Neilson (1901-1942) was the great grandson of the Hon. John Neilson (1776-1848), publisher of the Quebec Gazette from 1797 to 1848. Gordon was an honorary Professor of Religious Art at the University of Montreal and Research Assistant in the School of Architecture at McGill, assisting Ramsay Traquair from 1928 to 1937. His expertise was valuable to Traquair for his knowledge of the French language, Quebec churches, and his ability as a photographer. As his obituary states from his family home at Neilsonville outside Quebec City, Gordon was the product of two notable families, Neilson and Lanaudière.
