        History

        Maxwell Goldstein, K.C. was born on May 13, 1863, in Quebec City, Quebec.

        He graduated from McGill University in 1882 and studied law in Montreal. In 1903, he was selected a King's counsel and in 1925, he went into partnership with John A. Engel, K.C., and created the law firm of Goldstein and Engel. He was a councilor of the Bar of Montreal in 1922-23 and chairman of the committee on law of the Grand Council, Royal Arcanum of Quebec. He was not only a prominent lawyer, but also a philanthropist and leader in the cause of Reform Judaism in Canada, and president of Temple Emanuel. He was one of the founders of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, a member of the managing committee of the Victorian Order of Nurses and a governor of Montreal General Hospital.

        In 1892, he married Rosalie Stern. After her death, he married Adeline Stern in 1925. He died on June 28, 1939, in Montreal, Quebec.
