      General note

Material in this archive is organized within the schema of the Edward Maxwell archive (see CAC 2).

Material in this archive records the activities of the Maxwell firm from 1899-1901. When Edward Maxwell's busy practice required extra assistance, George Cutler Shattuck (1864-1923) arrived from Boston to become a partner in the firm around 1899. Maxwell and Shattuck became acquainted when they worked together in the firm of Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge. Their professional association was brief, ending when William Sutherland Maxwell became Edward's partner in 1901. Nevertheless, some important commissions were undertaken during this time including the additions and alterations to Windsor Station in Montreal and the house for Louis-Joseph Forget in Senneville, PQ. Shattuck's other major professional activities took place in Boston where he became a partner with Charles A. Coolidge in 1914 and where he remained until his death.

      General note
