        History

        Charles Leblond was born in Lille, France in 1910. Educated at Free University of Lille he obtained Licencie es Sciences in 1932. In 1934 he achieved M.D. from University in Paris and one year later a D.Sc. from Sorbonne. In 1942 he was granted a PhD. from Universite de Montreal. Charles Leblond has been a Professor of Anatomy at McGill University since 1948. Prior to lecturing at McGill in 1941 and 1942, he was also a lecturer of Histology and Anatomy at universities in Lille and Paris (1934-1935). In 1943 he was appointed Associate Professor, and in 1946 he became Associate Professor of Anatomy. Between 1957 and 1974 he was Chairman of the Anatomy Department of McGill University. Leblond received many special honours such as Prix Saintour from the French Academy in 1935. Flavel medal from Royal Society of Canada in 1961, and the Prix Marie-Victorin de la Provence de Quebec in 1992. He was a Rockefeller Fellow from Yale University, Department of Histology (1935-1937), Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1951) and Royal Society of London (1965). An active member of professional associations, he received numerous special honours, and several honorary degrees. He is the author of “L'acide Ascorbique dans les Tissus et sa Détection” (1936), “Iodine Metabolisme” in “Advance in Biological and Medical Physics” (1948). He also published about 300 articles of original research work in biology and medicine.
