David Timothy Irish was born on May 10, 1832, in Charlotte, Chittenden, Vermont.
He was a general agent of several express companies. In the 1860s he moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he built up a large express business.
In 1866, he married Cornelia Lake (1843–1911). He died on December 12, 1909, in Shelburne, Chittenden, Vermont.
