Matted portrait of Charles Burney with a signed receipt for purchase of Burney's General History of Music (4 volumes, London: 1776-1789). Typescript receipt contains the following manuscript annotations by Burney: numbered: no. 156, dated: March 27, 1789, and is addressed to a Miss Cecilia, perhaps a subscriber. The portrait is engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi after an image by Joshua Reynolds, and was published in 1784. Full dimensions are: total: 46 x 32 cm; portrait: 20 x 17 cm; and receipt: 6 x 16 cm.

Autograph manuscript of: Novels, plays and poems : written for the instruction of people of all ages by Sophia Elizabeth Burney, aged 13 years old.

Manuscript is written in cursive hand in brown ink on laid paper (horizontal chainlines with watermark visible in the fold). At the bottom of the title page is a dedication: "Humbly dedicated without permission to Mrs. d'Arblay" (the author's aunt, Fanny Burney d'Arblay). Page [24] contains a verse Address to the Readers. The manuscript is bound in its original contemporary brown paper wrappers (detached), with the manuscript title "Volume 1st" on the cover.

Manuscript contains a number of compositions, including, "The History of Blind Jack, A pathetic tale", "The Unlawful Marriage, A Tale", "Murder Prevented, A Comedy". "Murder Committed, A Tragedy", "The Adventures of a Boy", and "Pennsylvania, the Orphan of the Hovel. A Novel."

Manuscript letter signed by James Burney (Fanny Burney's brother) to an unknown recipient. Address leaf is wanting. The letter is dated 21 December 1816 and concerns a citation by Maldonado from the introduction of Relacion del Viage (1792), about the Dutch and Mexicans (pg. xlix-lii).

The letter describes her acquaintances in France from April 1767, including descriptions which she mentions as having been omitted from her journal for the year 1767.

Consists of autograph letter from Charles Burney to Lady Banks, dated 26 March 1808 and written from Chelsea College. The letter is written in brown ink and has remains of wax seal. The letter contains in particular lengthy discussion of the Italian Ariettes of Vincenzo Righini, printed in English in 1791 and muses upon how they managed to arrive in England, their merits, and the poetry of Dryden, Gray, and Pope. Also mentions the music of an "Italianized German of the name of Pfeiffer."

Autograph letter from Charles Burney Jr. written at Greenwich, 1 December 1800, to William Davies, Bookseller, Strand. Also postmarked 1 December 1800. Consists of one folded sheet with one page of letter, one page address and one page of postscript (one page blank). Written on black-edged laid paper. The letter requests a receipt for Fanny Burney's account ("The Bill against Mrs. D'Arblay"). In a postscript, Burney requests that Davies send him 100 copies of Gay's Fables.

Holograph letter from Charles Burney Jr. addressed to W.F. Rose Esq. Navy Pay Office, London. Postmarked on final leaf with ink stamp: NO 30 1813. At end of letter: Rectory House, Deptford No. 30th 1813. Written in a sloping hand in brown ink and with a small repair to upper outer corner of final leaf of letter. The letter discusses some Greek newspapers sent along in a packet to Rose, Burney's latest struggles with gout, as well as potential future visitors to the Rectory. Letter is accompanied by a printed pamphlet.
