Gideon Mitchell Duncan was born about 1842 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland.

He was a physician in Bathurst, New Brunswick. He was one of the founding members of the New Brunswick Medical Society (1881) and its first secretary. In 1881, he presented a paper “Somewhat About a Few Medicinal Plants of New Brunswick” before the Natural History Society of New Brunswick.

He married Martha Jane Gordon (1843-). He died on October 5, 1913, in Bathurst, Gloucester, New Brunswick.
