    Administrative history

    Dominion Salvage and Wrecking Company Limited was a ship salvage and recovery company established in the 19th century. It was incorporated on March 21, 1881, with its main office located in Montreal and an agency in Kingston, Ontario. The original directors included H. Herriman as president, J.G. Ross as vice-president for Quebec, and F.W. Henshaw as secretary-treasurer. At that time, the company's address was 26 Rue de l'Hôpital.

    By around 1884, the head office had moved to 69 Rue Saint-Pierre, and the directors at that time were F.R. Batterburg as president, H. Herriman as vice-president and manager, and John W. Cumming as secretary-treasurer. The company ultimately declared bankruptcy in 1891.

    The collection consists of an inventory list; a volume labelled "Equipment. Steamer Relief / Pontoons & Wrecking Plant / Lower St. Lawrence / 19 May 1882 - 22 February 1883," containing 22 used pages.; a volume labeled " Wrecks & Disasters," a scrapbook of clippings and printed documents, 1882-1884, with 39 used pages; a blank "Share Subscribers Register" consisting of 6 pages; and a "Winter Navigation of River St. Lawrence / Copy of Log of Steamer 'Folger,' of the Dominion Salvage and Wrecking Co., Montreal, 1883, containing 12 pages.
