History

Albert E. Brookes was an enthusiastic entomologist and conchologist from New Zealand. He was a life member of the Conchology Section of the Auckland Institute and Museum, also known as the Auckland Shell Club, and served as its president from 1948 to 1950. Edwin Ashby (1861-1941), an English naturalist, named a new species of molluscs found in New Zealand in honour of Brookes: Acanthochitona brookesi Ashby, 1926.
