        History

        Hugh Wylie Becket was born on August 24, 1847, in Montreal, Quebec.

        He was one of the original members of the Montreal Bicycle Club (1878) and the treasurer of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (1881). He was also a vice-president of the Montreal Snow Shoe Club. In 1882, he wrote the book “The Montreal Snow Shoe Club, Its History and Record: with a Synopsis of the Racing Events of Other Clubs Throughout the Dominion, from 1840 to the Present Time”. He compiled the photographic Actress Album found today at the McCord Museum of Canadian History.

        He died in 1903 in Montreal, Quebec.
