James Middlemass & Co., a clothing and outfitting establishment, was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1847. The company specialized in outfits like academic gowns and pulpit robes but also made a variety of regular clothing for boys and young men. They also published a few editions of a "Guide Book to Edinburgh and Its Environs" in the 1880s.
The James McGill Society was founded in 1975 to promote interest in the history of McGill; its first permanent secretary is Dr. Stanley Frost, director of the History of McGill Project.
